Spring 2010 Newsletter
Greetings Fellow Heppnerites,
What a wet and green spring it has been! Why do weeds always seem to grow faster than grass and flowers? This is one of those mysteries of life! As we enter into the late Spring and early Summer we need to remind ourselves that being a good neighbor, among other things involves courtesy towards others, such as not letting your animals run free, keeping your lawn mowed and your yard free of debris and trash (it makes the neighborhood pleasant, and maintains property values)etc. We hope you and your family have a safe and fun-filled summer. Be considerate of people attending church on Sunday morning, and please refrain from making noises that distract from Sunday morning worship (we could use a little Divine assistance on occasion).
Sincerely,
Les L. Paustian, Mayor
New Staff at City Hall
You have probably noticed that there are some new faces at City Hall. During the past few months we have hired a replacement, Dan Doyle, to replace Randy Samples who retired. We have also hired a Tarina Foster as the Utility Billing Clerk. Here is a little biographical information about them both.
Dan Doyle
Dan was raised in the North Portland area (St. John’s area). He graduated from Roosevelt High school in 1981. He has held a variety of jobs: a crane operator, a chemist’s assistant in a metal plating shop, and an iron worker. Tired of the rain and the hustle and bustle of Portland, Dan came to Heppner through California and Hardman. His siblings (two step-sisters and five step-brothers) still reside in the Portland area. He has two sons and one daughter. Dan has worked off and on for the City several times. We are pleased that he has joined the City crew.
Tarina Foster
Tarina was born in Pendleton but lived in Heppner until she was 17 years old. She traveled to Hawaii (the Big Island) and subsequently graduated from Kona Waena High school in 1988. After high school graduation she returned to Oregon and lived in the Bend area where she met and married her husband, Rich. Rich works at PettyJohn’s in Heppner. Tarina’s brother, Robert, lives in Heppner and has worked for Lamb-Weston for the past ten years. Her mother, Claudia is also a Heppner resident. Tarina and Rich enjoy motor cycle riding and bee keeping. Her family consists of chickens, goats, cats, a pond full of Koi and a peacock. You will find her smile and friendly manner disarming.
Welcome aboard!
Consumer Confidence Report
Once a year, we are required to publicize the results of testing our water for a variety of chemicals and elements. You will be receiving this report in the near future. Heppner’s water is about as safe as distilled water!
Other Projects
We have several ideas (projects) that we hope accomplish in the near future. Unfortunately the funding is in limbo right now and we are waiting to see the results of some voter initiatives etc. By the election this fall these issues should be resolved and hopefully we can move forward. Have a good summer.
The City Staff, Heppner
